So, all my meds were waiting on me at my front door when I got home Thursday night. I walked up to steps and said to myself...well, here we go..
Opening up the box was a surprise. There were bags of needles, little boxes, pills, suppositories...I was like Holyshiot!..I feel like a crack dealer.:( I put everything I was supposed to in the fridge. Of course I had to play with the Follistim shot pen for a while too...I think, and hope I have it all figured out.
This AF was horribly heavy this month. I bled through a couple pairs of pants...not fun...I felt like something was wrong a couple times. The RE said it was probably due to the HSG I had. I hope I got rid of whatever I was supposed to.
I started the Femara on Thursday and I am continuing to take Metformin 3x a day. Since I was on CD3 when I started taking it, it really took a tole on my stomach! Granted Met has the reputation for GI side effects but for the weeks I have been on it I have never experienced such symptoms like I have this week. Everytime I eat and take the meds within an hour I have to practically run the bathroom. At work I have been taking Immodium or Pepto and it seems to help. My RE says that my body should be still adjusting to it and the symptoms will get better.....let's hope and pray!! If not, I will be staying within 10 ft of a bathroom.:( I start the Follistim in two days...ekkkk...the needle to that does not look too painful....but the HCG needle on the otherhand...not so pretty and it seems harder to mix and such.
I can't wait to see how my little follicles are doing in there. Let's hope and pray they are playing well with each other and growing properly.:)
Well, that's it for now.....I am being completely lazy today, all I did was make a trip to Walmart.:)

CD1 onto IUI#1
Well this is finally it...CD1. After days of spotting I think CD1 is finally here. Even though its not really that heavy it looks to be AF. So I called the nurse and she seemed to be talking 90 miles an hour....with everything I have to start taking. ::pulls out the long list::
- Metfomin(which I have been on 1500mg)
-Letrozole(Femera)
-Ovidrel
-HCG shot
-Prometrium
I THINK thats it!lol Sounds like enough right?!lol It is very overwhelming right now I must admitt, but I am sure with practice and once I get on schedule it will get easier with time. I am excited about my next appt which is 8AM on Thursday(29th) where they will do some b/w and show me how to do the injectibles and other stuff. I told DH today that I might have to get one of those old lady pill dividers things that say: Monday, Tuesday....etc....to make sure I remember to take everything when I should!
I listened to a very touching session on the radio this morning on my way to work. I didnt catch the whole thing...but it was about a young boy about 15 or so that was confined to a wheelchair with a life threatening disease. He had such a good attitude considering everything he was going through, and I thought to myself- Gosh what an inspiration he is to people and especially children. He said 'why get depressed over things you can't change. This is the life that I have and I cant change it, I might as well live it to the best of my ability. If the pieces fall down, I will bend over and pick them up.....I will keep going...Life throws obstacles in your way but you always find a way to get over them. You only have one life to live."
-I sat there with tears in my eyes as I drove to work. I thought to myself, why have I been so sad lately...I am in good health, and I am so fortunate to have the things I have. I CAN GET THROUGH ALL OF THIS AND MORE. Isn't it funny how God puts things into perspective for you. I know I was meant to hear that on the radio this morning because it really called out to me and it was what I needed to hear.
I just thought I would add this song: (I love the part of this song: Cowgirls don't cry..Ride, baby, ride..lessons in life are going to show you in time..soon enough your gonna know why...it's gonna hurt every now and then.....if you fall get back on again.....Cowgirls don't cry) Here's the rest..
Her daddy gave her, her first pony
Then taught her to ride
She climbed high in that saddle
Fell I don't know how many times
Taught her a lesson that she learned
Maybe a little too well
Cowgirls don't cry. Ride, baby, ride
lessons in life are going to show you in time
soon enough your gonna know why
it's gonna hurt every now and then
if you fall get back on again
Cowgirls don't cry
She grew up
She got married
Never was quite right
She wanted a house, a home and babies
He started coming home late at night
She didn't let him see it break her heart
She didn't let him see her fall apart'cause
Cowgirls don't cry Ride, baby, ride
lessons in life are goinna' show you in time soon enough your gonna know why
it's gonna hurt every now and then
if you fall get back on again
Cowgirls don't cry
Phone rang early one morning
Her momma's voice, she'd been crying
Said it's your daddy, you need to come home
This is it, I think he's dying
She laid the phone down by his head
The last words that he said
Cowgirl don't cry- Ride, baby, ride
Lessons in life show us all in time
Too soon God lets you know why
If you fall get right back on. Good Lord calls everybody home. Cowgirl don't cry
Remember to be strong ladies..even when things get tough, you can and will get through it, you just have to have faith.

Good ol' AF is here..
So my little trooper egg did not make it. At least he made it through the mass of 30 little/cystic eggs, so I have to give him credit for that right?!
I was spotting the past few days but I chalked it up to being from the HSG. I still had little hope that maybe if I actually O'ed on my own this time that this would be it....but Nope..AF is here today. Sometimes there are days when I think that getting pregnant is never going to happen for me and other days I am great with the whole idea of seeing an RE. Well, today(I am sure its from horomones too) but I am feeling a little down today. Why cant I be one of those people that it just happens...especially before an IUI or a IVF...why cant I have that miracle??
I left a message for the nurse to call me back because she said she wanted to mark when CD1 was, so I have a feeling she is going to want to do some more bloodwork on CD3 and then we will proceed with an IUI. I guess I am just nervous for whats to come. Are we going to do one IUI and that do the trick or is this going to be nothing but a year of empty promises like last year? Like the song on this profile, there are so many questions I have that I can't answer and its frustrating to say the least. I have put it all in God's hands and that's all I can do.

HSG
Before the HSG the RE said..oh this should be nothing..a quick 2-3 min procedure. Well when he went to go stick the catheter in my cervix it would not go up far enough and it hurt like a BIOTCH! So he puts the forceps back in and inserts the catheter again and tell me that he has to put it further up because my cervix is being "stubborn"...Wonderful...it was a burning sensation and tears started to come to my eyes...ugh. So what was supposed to be 2-3 mins ended up being 15 mins! Good news: Everything was clear! no blockages!
Then, after the HSG they wanted me to have another internal u/s to see what my ovaries were doing. So I got undressed once again and there were 20 eggs/follicles on my left ovary and 16 on my right...but then she says "Wait! what is that?" I am like WTH? what do you mean. She says ohhhh good it looks like you just ovulated on your own! I saw this perfect little egg--well let me clarify..a corpus luteum that had made it down to my uterus! YAY!
So they sent me on my way across the street to get b/w done to see if in fact I ovulated on my own...and we should get that back tomorrow!:) So I am in the waiting game and didnt even know it!!
~Please little egg do your best to stick! I am taking care of myself and trying to give you all the vitamins you need.:) I will pray for you every night...~

Getting healthy..a better me!:)
So, I started the Metformin last week and today I bumped it up to two pills a day so 1000mg so far. Next week I will be taking 3 pills a day(morning, noon and night). Metformin is helping my digestive system already and my face is slowly but surely clearing up for the first time in a year.
I feel so much better having being diagnosed with PCOS- that may sound a bit crazy but just in a week I feel so much better...I just want to give my RE a big kiss for figuring out what I had and prescribing me the Metformin! I have already lost 5 lbs and my clothes are fitting soooo much better! Ever since the doctor said I was more prone to get diabetes, I really took that and ran with it-its almost like I needed that slap in the face...I have been taking alot better care of myself and my health.
Confession: I must admitt that this year has been very difficult for me, especially with TTC. I slowly put on weight, and I would get so depressed every cycle that I saw so many BFNs that all I wanted to do was pig out on junk food and beer!! I would throw my hands up at the end of every cycle and say "what the hell..what is wrong with me" Well, that whole train of thought did not do my body or my emotions any good.....slowly but surely I lost who I was as a person and let TTC consume my life.
Not only did 2009 bring a New beginning and a life change, it gave me the courage to change all my bad habits. Since I have been eating healthy, not drinking(which I used to be a huge social drinker and the life of the party) I feel soo much better. I don't crave junk food anymore and I watch every single thing that goes in my mouth. Before my mentality was..."should I eat this? will it effect me if I am pregnant...should I drink...drink till its pink...well maybe/maybe not- oh the hell with it" I used to Yo-Yo diet alot and that is very unhealthy.
NOW- I could even use the excuse of PCOS--my body turns insulin into fat and I can't burn it. Yes, it may be harder for me to lose weight but it isnt impossible. How can I be mad at my body anymore for not doing what its supposed to do, when I am not doing everything in my power to make it the best it can be?
I am doing it for myself and nothing else...I have just changed my way of thinking. Whether or not I am pregnant this month or it takes another year- at least I will know that my body is ready for it and I am in the best shape and health I could be in. I don't want to be the Mom that climbs a flight of stairs and gets winded. I don't want to have excuses why I am fat or why I am gaining weight and not caring. I want people to look at me and say "Daaaamn, look at her go!!" I want to be an inspiration for not giving up. I haven't given up on TTC so why should I give up on anything else that is hard. You only live once and you only have one body so take care of it.
This month I gave up charting due to my RE's advice..and I have felt at peace with everything. I am not concentrating on when I am getting my period, I know it will come sooner or later. I am so excited about being monitored and it takes alot of stress out of the whole process. It will happen, and I still have faith. God has helped me through alot of things this past year and I have learned some valuable lessons. You can't get mad for the things that you don't have, you have to be grateful for the things you do have. I will continue to pray for my health and our beautiful baby that is waiting to be with us.:) Here's to 2009!

New Year Prayer
Holy Father,
God of our yesterdays, our today, and our tomorrows.
We praise You for Your unequaled greatness.
Thank You for the year behind us and for the year ahead.
Help us in Your new year, Father, to fret less and laugh more.
To teach our children to laugh by laughing with them.
To teach others to love by loving them.
Knowing, when Love came to the stable in Bethlehem, He came for us.
So that Love could be with us, and we could know You.
That we could share Love with others.
Help us, Father, to hear Your love song in every sunrise,
in the chriping of sparrows in our backyards,
in the stories of our old folks, and the fantasies of our children.
Help us to stop and listen to Your love songs,
so that we may know You better and better.
We rejoice in the world You loved into being.
Thank You for another new year and for new chances every day.
We pray for peace, for light, and for hope, that we might spread them to others.
Forgive us for falling short this past year.
We leave the irreparable past in your hands, and step out into the unknown new year knowing You will go with us.
We accept Your gift of a new year and we rejoice in what's ahead, depending on You to help us do exactly what You want..
I say it again, we rejoice!
In Jesus name,
Amen.

I am proud of myself for once..
Last week I started a low carb diet, because when I did that in college I lost alot of weight. So since last Monday I have been eating scrambled eggs for breakfast, a salad or chicken salad for lunch and grilled chicken and veggies/or something similar for dinner. I thought it would be alot harder than it really is but I have been really sticking to it! At my first RE appt last Saturday the doctor said that heavy carbs and sugars were not good for people with PCOS and I am much more likely to develop diabetes in the future, which scared me to death! So, that really kicked my butt into gear...
I bought the Jillian Michael's 30 day shred DVD and I have continued the low carb diet, taking vitamins and drinking lots of water. I even got one of those "bender ball" ab workout things..it is awesome! I have lost 5 lbs so far but I just feel more fit and healthier.:)
Work has been the hardest because we always want to snack on candy and chocolate, but I have not eaten one piece of candy, cookie..nothing for two weeks, I am staying away from chocolate and sugar completely!! I am so proud of myself..I know if I cave at least one time I will over indulge and go back to square one. The biggest loser show is great because even though I am not a "big" person like that I can relate to some of those ladies on there. Its all about the decisions you make and what you put in your mouth..you are the only one that makes this decision so its my fault I have gained weight and no one else's. Why am I am putting off getting in shape when its only going to get worse if I don't do anything about it. I need to do this diet for myself and my disease, I want to look at myself in the mirror and be happy with my appearance and say look what I accomplished! So pray for my willpower to keep going..I want to lose about 20 lbs!! I am anxious to see myself in the next couple months! Here's to my 2009 resolution!

Bingo! This is it..

I found this on photobucket and I thought it was great. So much is making sense now since I got diagnosed with PCOS. I think I have had it for so long but I just never thought to get a u/s or to mention it to doctors until I came across it on the internet and was sent to a RE! When I first read about PCOS..I was like BINGO!! Thats it!
My face has been out of control with acne on and off throughout my life. My periods were never really "regular" even when I was on BC and I hate to admitt it but I always struggled with a few gross hairs here and there in weird places on my body- sometimes my face...so much so I asked the dermotologist about it a few years ago but he didn't act concerned because it was not alot of hair or anything..and he just said "well you have dark hair, what can you expect." So I was sent on my way. I should have put it all together a long time ago that maybe my hormones were out of whack and something else was going on, I just didnt know what.
I am not "obsese" by any means and I never have been. I have always been an extremely active, outdoors kind of person so I was always pretty much "in shape", maybe just put on a few pounds here and there. Just "big boned" as I like to call it..I mean hell I am 6'0, big butts and thighs run in my family.lol Over the past year or so I have actually been eating better and excersising more because I was slowly putting on unexplained weight and I was finding it harder and harder to get the extra pounds off. Well, now over the past 2 months I have put on at least 10lbs.:( I will seriously cry if I see one more pound on that scale! So, I am hoping that Metformin will put some things back to normal and calm down this weight gain and get my back to my normal skin and normal weight. I am also following the low carb, no sugar diet because they say that may help insulin levels too.
So we'll see what happens. I hope this whole experience will make me even stronger and be a support for other people going through it. I believe that even though I have been hit with some challenges that it has made my life stronger and the love between my husband and I even deeper. One step at a time.....:)

1st RE appt.
So do you want the good news or the bad news first? How about the good news...
H has super sperm, his SA went great! He was so nervous at first, he kept saying he didnt want to let me down..and I kept reassuring him that he would never do that and everything would be ok. Well his results came back 158 and the normal range is in the 20's!! The doctor said he definitely has "bragging rights"!!lol You could tell that H was relieved to hear that.
Well, after we heard those results we both went into the room to get the internal u/s. I was happy to have H there beside me and I think he really learned alot from the doctor explaining everything. When the doctor looked at my right ovary he said I had 14 eggs in there and I said "well isnt that more than normal" and he said well the norm is about 8 so its not too bad. Then he looked over at my left ovary and said..."do you see all those eggs?" It was clear as day, I had 16 over there and my left ovary was larger than the right. So he took some pics and measured things out and we headed back into his office to talk. Right when H and I got back into his office I was able to see the docs computer and it said "Metformin and PCOS" in bold letters at the top of the page. I looked at H and I said "I knew it! I knew he was going to say PCOS." Well of course H was optimistic and he was like, well you never know...So the doc comes back in and pulls out some pics and information about PCOS. He looks at us both and says I think you have PCOS, all of your symptoms and signs point towards that. (symptoms: Acne-very bad, irregular periods, cysts..)It does not look like I have been ovulating, even though my charts say otherwise. He goes on to say that I have to be careful going forward because I am at a higher risk for diabetes. It was alot to take in but I am glad I had read up about PCOS before so I kind of knew what to expect. I think all H was hearing was diabetes and you could tell he got sad and worried. The doc reassured us that with meds and IUI's our chances go up and he will help us get PG.
After we talked to the doc a while and he explained all the bloodwork I had to go through and the meds he left the room and H and I got ready to go. H was reassuring me the whole time that everything would be ok. I held my composure in the office even though I had the biggest knot in my throat and just wanted to cry.
We got back in the car and I was looking at all the information. My H kept saying "don't worry now we know that its something that can be fixed and we will do whatever we have to do." We were hungry so we went to our favorite restraunt on the charleston marina and had brunch. My H ordered up mamosas and he raised his glass with a smile on his face and said "Here's to having a baby!" He was so cute and it brought a smile to me face.:) I think this whole experience has brought us even closer and more grateful for what we have.
My H ordered up mamosas and he raised his glass with a smile on his face and said "Here's to having a baby!" Countdown to RE
The countdown is officially on! I couldn't really think about the countdown to the New Year..I was just focused on this weekend getting here!!:) I have 3 more days till my first, ever RE appt. In a way I am overly excited because I feel like I am getting the answers I deserve...well hopefully. I know DH is a little nervous because this is the first test that he will have to go through and I remember how that felt when I was in that position for the first time. I am just trying to reassure him that even if the tests don't come back good that there is always something else we can try and that things will eventually work for us. It's never putting fault on one or the other because I know on my end I have had some pretty wacky cycles anyway that weren't helping the situation.;)
Our plan is to have this appt., see what the doctor says and if everything is "normal" as is he thinks I am ok and DH is ok..then the plan will probably be to transfer back to a normal OBGYN and wait it out some more. If everything is not "normal" then we will see what the next step is and definitely get some money out of savings because it looks like its going to be really expensive...but totally worth it.:) I can't wait to update on Saturday!
